December 12 and 13, 2020
If you plan on venturing into the backcountry this winter and have not taken any formal avalanche training then this is the course for you. This AST 1 will follow the Avalanche Canada curriculum and is taught by a ACMG local mountain guide.
Directed pre course study and two full days out in the mountains will offer plenty of time for learning and travel. Saturday will be a day spent reviewing avalanche basics, outdoor companion rescue training and trip planning. Sunday is a full day touring trip up into the mountains. This course is only open to backcountry skiers or split boarders with at least intermediate skiing/riding skills. No snowshoes are allowed on this course. Participants must provide their own transportation throughout the course and must be 19 or over.
